2024
The Language of Porcelain and Food was a project run by the Museum of Royal Worcester.
In 2023, the Museum was awarded an Arts Council National Lottery Project grant to ‘unlock’ our collections through stories of food and drink. In partnership with Dr Neil Buttery (an award-winning food historian, author, podcaster, and chef), we have created a new Georgian dining table and dessert course cabinet to illuminate the interesting (and often surprising) ways in which Worcester ceramics were used in 18th-century dining experiences. These displays have helped bring our collection to life, offering insight into how food has been prepared, shared, and enjoyed over time.
As part of this project, our collaboration with Worcestershire LitFest poets, titled ‘The Language of Porcelain and Food’, has allowed local writers to take inspiration from these new food history displays. Their poems showcase creative local talent and offer new literary perspectives on our varied collection.
Jenny’s poem The Ice Cream Diaries was written as part of this project.

Summer 2012
Members of the Worcestershire Poetry Stanza were involved in a project to write poems inspired by the National Trust property, Hanbury Hall, Nr. Droitwich, Worcestershire. My poem, A room of their own, was inspired by the Ladies’ Blue Sitting Room.
Autumn 2011 – Spring 2012
Illustrator Cheryl Howard used a selection of poems from my collection Petrolhead, as an inspiration to create six stunning prints as her exhibition piece for the University of Worcester’s Illustration Students’ Personal Statement Exhibition. The first meeting between Cheryl and myself was in Autumn 2011, with the final pieces exhibited in Spring 2012. The poems from Petrolheadwhich inspired Cheryl’s work are:
High Tea
I watch my Mother climbing up walls
A Walk through the Forest
Red Coat
Beef
Strange Bedfellows
The exhibition runs from 3rd – 7th May. Venue: Cathedral Plaza Worcester. (by the Next Store)
